Professional Underground Miners

Minera San Rafael, the Guatemala operating company of Tahoe Resources Inc., is seeking qualified PROFESSIONAL UNDERGROUND MINERS at its Escobal project in Santa Rosa Department, Guatemala.

Underground Miners with extensive experience in safe and productive mechanized mining are required for development and startup of a 3,500 tpd underground operation.

Ideal candidates will have 10+ years of experience working in mechanized underground mines, a positive and disciplined attitude to mine safety and advanced skills in the operation of equipment for development drill and blast (electric hydraulic jumbos, mechanized bolters, +7yd LHDs, +30t haul trucks) and longhole drill and blast for open stoping (top hammer and ITH drills, production blasting, remote LHDs and cemented paste backfill). Specialty skills in the operation of production drilling equipment (Atlas Copco Simbas and Cubex ITH Drills) are a plus as well as Spanish speaking skills. Reporting to the Mine Manager, responsibilities of the Miners will include:

  • Efficiently advancing development headings including each cycle phase: Drilling, charging, blasting, loading, hauling, and ground support.
  • Productively performing mine production tasks including blast hole drilling, charging, blasting, ore loading, haulage, and ground support.
  • Performing underground mine services and infrastructure installations for development and production requirements.
  • Participating in developing and implementing continuous improvement initiatives in all aspects including development efficiency, mine productivity, and safety.
  • Demonstrating understanding and leadership abilities in operating and safety practices, emergency procedures and regulatory (e.g. MSHA) compliance that meet or exceed industry standards.

Senior Mine Planning Engineer

Tahoe Resources Inc., is seeking qualified applicants for the position of SENIOR MINE PLANNING ENGINEER at its Reno, NV office.

This position requires Senior level experience with demonstrated mine planning and leadership skills.The ideal candidate will have at least 5+ years of underground mine planning and production experience and be fluent in English and Spanish. A B.S. Degree in Mining or Civil Engineering is required. Other prerequisites include proven experience in mine design, short- and long-range planning, implementing engineering departmental procedures and standards, and providing support to operations. The candidate will be computer literate (MS Word, Excel, Access) with knowledge of AutoCAD and Surpac and/or Datamine, or similar mine planning software.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting operations managers in implementing standards and procedures for the mine engineering department at our operations
  • Developing intermediate and long-term production and development plans and schedules to meet business plans
  • Developing stope designs and extraction sequences including procedures for long-hole and cut- and-fill stope production and development.  Developing and communicating operational measures, controls, and tools for the operating personnel in the field to manage production and development.
  • Working with Operations Managers to establish and manage mine production data collection; overseeing stope and production reconciliations to resource models and mill production
  • Developing mine reserve production plans and reserve estimations
  • Conducting and overseeing mine services design including pumping, ventilation, backfill, service water, and electrical
  • In cooperation with operations managers, assisting in the preparation of timely and accurate plans and production reports; preparing budgets and forecasts, and analyzing costs in relation to performance

This position will reside in our operations headquarters in Reno, NV. However, the successful applicant should expect to spend approximately 50% of their time at our operation in Guatamala.

Chief Surveyor

This position requires senior level experience with demonstrated technical, management, and leadership skills. The ideal candidate will have at least 10+ years of mining and construction survey experience, including 5+ years of underground mine survey experience. Prerequisites include experience with cavity monitoring systems (CMS) or Optec surveys, alimak raise surveying, and supervision of mine survey crews. The successful candidate will be computer literate (MS Word, Excel, Access), proficient in AutoCAD, and have advanced skills in 3D mine design and survey software (such as Surpac, Vulcan, Datamine, etc.).   • Planning, supervision, and technical review of all mine survey work;

  • Maintenance of digital and hardcopy as-built plans of the underground and surface installations;
  • Preparation of weekly and monthly reports on development advance, production, and ore and waste stockpiles.

Senior Metallurgist

Precious Metal, Lead, Zinc, Sulphide Flotation Plant and Lab

Minera San Rafael, the Guatemala operating company of Tahoe Resources Inc., is seeking qualified applicants for the position of SENIOR METALLURGIST at its Escobal project in the Santa Rosa Department, Guatemala

The Escobal Senior Metallurgist reports directly to the Mill Manager. The Sr. Metallurgist is responsible for designing, organizing, planning, and implementing all testing, analysis, and studies required to insure that process plant operations are optimized, minimum recoveries and concentrate qualities are met, and opportunities for improved production, profitability, and cost performance are recognized. The Sr. Metallurgist will be responsible for the operation of the on-site laboratory insuring that the appropriate procedures are in use, including safety procedures, and that timely and accurate analysis is completed on both ore control and metallurgical determinations. The Sr. Metallurgist works closely with the Mill Manager and operating personnel to identify the requirements for achieving Escobal’s business plan.

The Senior Metallurgist is responsible for implementing such analytical procedures and tests as necessary to help determine optimal mill performance in a safe, profitable, productive, and low-cost manner. In addition, the Senior Metallurgist will insure safe, productive, and low cost operation of the laboratory. All laboratory staff and supervisors report to the Senior Metallurgist. The Senior Metallurgist shall implement the training necessary for local labor to obtain the skills and discipline required for the operation of the laboratory and will assist the Mill Manager in accomplishing the same task for mill operations. Such training is to include operational practices and implementation of standards necessary for a safe, high quality, productive, low-cost and environmentally sound operation. Such training is also expected to meet or exceed industry standards for this type of operation.

The Senior Metallurgist works closely with other departments including mill maintenance, mine and mill operations, safety, environmental, accounting, and community relations to ensure operational, business, and Corporate Social Responsibility objectives meet or exceed Tahoe Resources standards and expectations.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Direct and coordinate the activities of laboratory and assist the Mill Manager in coordinating the process plant department personnel
  • Implementing programs to collect and analyze appropriate data to:
  • Determine whether or not the operation is meeting daily, weekly and monthly goals,
  • implementing programs and work plans that recognize problems and opportunities and develop solutions and plans for improvement
  • Meeting goals for laboratory performance and production, safety and environmental compliance
  • Manage lab staff to meet the needs of the mine and process plant and coordinate and activities within or between work areas
  • Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and metallurgical and lab activities to meet production goals
  • Ensure that demonstrated equipment, operations, and work safety procedures are provided to all new employees, and, where necessary, assign employees to more experienced workers for training
  • Observe work and monitor equipment performance and completed work to ensure that laboratory and plant staff are performing to standards
  • Confer with management or subordinates to resolve worker problems, complaints, or grievances; take disciplinary action as required
  • Ensure compliance with safety and sanitation regulations
  • Interpret and administer company policies and procedures for workers

Chief Mining Engineer

The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of mine planning and operations experience; at least 5 years in underground mines. Minimum 2 years’ experience managing a technical group of engineers and surveyors for a mine operation. Prerequisites include proven experience in mine design and production, short- and long-range planning, implementing engineering departmental procedures and standards, and providing support to operations. The candidate will be computer literate (MS Word, Excel, Access) with knowledge of AutoCAD and Surpac ; proficient in at least one mine design software package. Candidate must have experience in large scale underground mining with open stoping and reserve estimation experience. Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing standards and procedures for the mine engineering department
  • Hiring and training the necessary technicians and surveyors for the development and production activities required in operating a 3,500 tonne per day underground mine
  • Working closely with operations and the geology department to control mine development and production, and managing all required mining functions
  • Developing short-, intermediate- and long-term production schedules to meet business plans
  • Managing and overseeing all aspects of stope design and extraction sequence; implementing procedures for blasthole planning and providing operational control in the work areas
  • Establishing and managing mine production data collection; overseeing stope and production reconciliations to resource models and mill production
  • Managing mine reserve production plans and reserve estimations
  • Coordinating closely with Corporate Technical Services to review functions and goals to ensure departmental performance meets corporate objectives
